TALK TO YOUR MASSAGE THERAPIST
First time client? Weekly or monthly client? Doesn’t matter. Talk to your therapist before your session begins. Did you know that massage therapists are state licensed? Many have extensive backgrounds in kinesiology, nursing and myriad alternative therapies that can be tailored to your needs. Take the time to research your choice and ask questions to your satisfaction before climbing onto a treatment table.
So if you’re having your first massage, ask the therapist to walk you through the procedure. What’s involved? How does my health history affect this massage? What kind of pressure, oils or lotions do you use? Can you pay attention to this or that area because it’s bothering me?
If you’re a veteran client, let your therapist know what is going on with you from the last session. Our bodies change and while you may have received a deep tissue massage last time, you may need a relaxation massage this time because you’re particularly stressed and may benefit more from a slightly different approach this session. Don't leave out detail. At my office, the detail often leads to recognition of underlying patterns of discomfort or illness that could be addressed in the session, making the treatment tailored and often more effective than just lying face down or face up and letting the therapist go through a 'routine'.
In addition, ask you therapist about their training, techniques and goals for your massage. Many therapists can combine techniques, use modalities like heat or cold or even include aromatherapy to help you have a wonderful experience as you work your way toward health of body, mind and spirit.
TABLE MASSAGE
Table massage is exactly what you are thinking when most people refer to massage. You lie down on a table after a short assessment with the therapist about your goals for the session, cover up in warm blankets and start a period of bliss of your choosing.
A therapist may use hydrotherapy (hot or cold), aromatherapy, or any other number of 'additional modalities' designed to boost the effectiveness of the treatment. They will always discuss them with you in advance of application.
While most clients want table massage, John also provides chair massage both on and off site. In If you are a business owner who would like to enhance your employees moral, health and happiness, East To West Therapeutics will come to your business and perform chair massage on your team.
